The staff at Mount Street Juniors have been supporting Mental Health Awareness Week by having some fun with silly hats 🙂
Mount Street Remembers
On Monday 11th November 2019 the we remembered those who gave their lives during war. The Remembrance service at The Plough Chapel was led by pupils where we shared our understanding, thoughts and feelings with the congregation.
The Plough chapel was adorned with poppies. Each of us had the opportunity to create
a poppy in memory of a hero who lost his or her life during past and present wars. The poppies were made from recycled bottles. The bottom of each bottle was transformed into a beautiful poppy which added to the atmosphere in the chapel. It was a very moving service for all and was lovely to receive the following comment after the service:
“I have just attended your memorial service in the Plough Chapel. I served for 30 years in The Royal Air Force and took part in many Remembrance parades and services during my career. Today’s led by the children was the most moving I can remember.Â
Huge congratulations to staff and most of all the children.”
Harvest Festival Fun
Everyone had a fantastic day celebrating harvest here at Mount Street.
We had a brilliant range of fruit models with some amazing creativity. Listening to the very informative presentations from each of the pupils was delightful, a lot of hard work had gone into making the models.
Each child was given the choice whether they would like to take their models home or use them to help create the soup and salad.
We all then spent the day reusing our fruit and vegetables and making them into delicious soup and fruit salad.
The Lower Juniors focused on chopping the vegetables for the soup whilst the Upper Juniors took on the challenge of fruit salad as part of our Science and Technology learning.
Thank you to everyone who donated food for Brecon Foodbank. It was wonderful to see generosity from across the school. Diolch yn fawr iwan!
Broneirion – Day 1
What a great start to our Broneirion adventures!
After singing our way to Mid Wales on the mini busses we were welcomed by our instructors Matt, Jo and Chris who gave us a tour of the amazing building. After lunch we split into our activity groups and had a go at our first activities. Zorb body balls and team problem solving challenges. I think it is safe to say everybody enjoyed and there were definitely some people who were better at staying on their feet during the zorb balls.
We are looking forward to seeing what we are going to be doing tomorrow!
