Christmas Fair

Each class enjoyed thinking of a money raising stall to run in the fair. We had lots of different ideas again this year, all proving very popular. The Upper Junior classes had a variety of stalls including snowball throwing competition, chocolate lollipops and tombola. The Lower Junior classes had a lucky dip, chocolate treat stall and name the bear. A new addition to the festivities this year were two visiting reindeer and Santa making a welcome appearance. The children were thrilled to have photos with them even in the awful weather conditions.

Thank you to everyone that came and supported our Christmas Fair this year.

From all the staff at Mount Street Junior School we wish you a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Year 3 and 4 Brecon War Museum trip

The Year 3 and 4 classes took it in turns to visit the Brecon War Museum this week. On arrival they were met by Mrs Holcroft who was ready to start the children’s evacuee experience. After a chat about World War 2 the children entered the drama room which was sectioned into different areas. They moved around the room in groups enjoying the Parlour, The shop and the Air Raid Wardens office. The children got the opportunity to dress up in war time clothes which helped them really get into their parts. After lunch the children went outside and entered the air raid shelter 6 at a time. Again they had a full experience and imagined how cramped and dark it would have been. I think its safe to say all the children and staff had a fantastic time.

Skills day fun!

Mount Street Junior School skills day was another success with the children enjoying their two choices. Back by popular demand was the cooking option, with 98 children choosing to cook up a tasty treat. On the menu was Apple crumble. Mrs Davies had thought of everything and there were different options to accompany the tasty stewed apple. Here are a few photos of a very enjoyable day.

Welcome back!

Staff at Mount Street Junior School would like to offer a warm welcome to all our new pupils. Everyone has been busy settling in this week and adjusting to their new surroundings and routines.

The whole school have been looking at ‘Rights and Responsibilities’ as their new topic. The children have been researching and deciding which rights work for their class. For example the right to listen, the right to speak, the right to be safe etc.

The Upper Juniors will be moving on to a new topic called ‘Car-tastrophe?’ they will look into the history of the car, designing their own car and then making it during D.T lessons.

The three Upper Junior classes will be swimming from Monday 9th September up until Christmas.

A welcome letter will be sent out today with all children, if you do not receive one please pop into the school office and we will get you a copy. Also a letter will be sent out to children who are interested in taking up Violin or Brass lessons.

Finally, we are collecting the Team GB stickers from Aldi, they are running ‘Aldi’s Kit for Schools’ with enough stickers we could be one of the twenty primary schools in with a chance of winning £20,000.
